  3.          The following changes were made to create version 5.40:
  4.  
  5.          1. Increased user memory by using expanded memory from the
  6.          assembly language program.  This also increased the size of the
  7.          ff.exe file from 98K to about 132K.  It freed about 1.5K more
  8.          for user memory.  But more importantly it allowed practically
  9.          an unlimited amount of memory for screen help menus.
  10.  
  11.          2. Several new help screens were added and the main menu was
  12.          made more descriptive.
  13.  
  14.          3. Added default reports when new file are created.  The reports
  15.          use field 1 to the field number that will produce a report with
  16.          79 columns or less.
  17.  
  18.          4. Put in a ROSTER report for programs using the GradeBook
  19.          feature.  The format of this report is:

  21.            Field3   Field 1 (L Name)    __|__|__|__|__|__|__|__|__|__|_

  23.          5.  Removed disk overlay used by fastfile.  The F.FF file is no
  24.          longer created or used.  This frees about 10K of disk space.

  26.          6. Put in ability to change directory, active disk drive,
  27.          and/or save the current file from the Load New file Menu.

  29.          7. Made it easier to exit to DOS.  If you changes were made to
  30.          the active file without saving to disk.  Fastfile will ask if
  31.          you wish to abandon the changes before exit to DOS.

  33.          8. Allowed using the delimiter zero [0] to signal disk output
  34.          to ignore delimiters.  This allows the user to transfer
  35.          FASTFILE reports using E-Mail as disk files.  You may still
  36.          select any other terminator for using disk output with other
  37.          programs like your favorite word processor.

  39.          9. Made the process of creating a new file design easier by
  40.          allowing edit of field specifications within the create new
  41.          file option.  Before you had to complete the file design before
  42.          edit was possible.  In addition you can see the location of new
  43.          fields on the screen as they added.

  45.          10. Made process of creating a new report design easier by
  46.          displaying the field name and tab advance in their printing
  47.          positions on the screen.:

  49.          11. Added global search and report feature.  To invoke this
  50.          feature the file name must start with two digits.  For
  51.          example 90CHECKS, 91CHECKS, 92CHECKS.  If 90CHECKS is loaded
  52.          and all three files are in the current directory, FASTFILE
  53.          automatically ask to search/report 91CHECKS and 92CHECKS when
  54.          a request for record search is made (in edit and report modes).

  56.          12. Added ability to change print character size (10,12, and 17
  57.          char/inch) for several printers.  Other printers will be added
  58.          as information on them is obtained.

  60.          13 26Apr93 - Problem with automatic math calculation corrected.
  61.          problem occured when a single (or odd number of) negative sign
  62.          appeared with decimal multiplication.

  64.          14. Corrected problem using numeric keypad during edit of numbers.

  66.          15.  V 5.43--- Eliminated the Selection Menu from appearing when
  67.          loading shareware version of FASTFILE.  Eliminated 4 application
  68.          programs from shareware version and made corresponding changes
  69.          to manual.  This will take less space on bulletin boards and
  70.          less time to transfer files over modems.
